These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your use of Pause for Scripture: Bible, its app extensions, and its public and cloud services (together, the "Service"). By downloading, installing, or using the Service, you agree to these Terms and the Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.
1. The Service
The Service provides a finite daily Scripture ritual: Scripture may be read or listened to, followed by a short editorial guide and a completion moment. It may also offer a Bible reader, cloud-based audio, accounts, saved items, optional private reflection, user-initiated sharing, analytics-supported service improvements, and optional Screen Time-based app pausing.
Scripture and editorial material are intentionally distinguished in the app. A Short Guide and Today’s Moment are editorial material; they are not Bible text and do not claim to replace Scripture, pastoral care, professional advice, or the teaching of any particular church or denomination.
2. Eligibility and responsible use
You must be legally able to agree to these Terms. If you are under the age of majority where you live, your parent or legal guardian must review and agree to these Terms on your behalf.
You may use the Service only lawfully and for personal, non-commercial purposes. You may not interfere with the Service, attempt unauthorized access, reverse engineer except where applicable law permits it, remove proprietary notices, or use the Service to violate another person’s rights.
3. Screen Time and app pausing
The optional blocking feature uses Apple’s Family Controls, Managed Settings, and Device Activity frameworks. It requires your explicit authorization and works only on supported Apple devices and system versions.
The feature is a voluntary personal focus aid, not an emergency service, parental-control guarantee, medical treatment, or safety-critical control. Do not rely on it where uninterrupted access to an app may be necessary for safety, navigation, communication, work, caregiving, medical needs, or an emergency. You are responsible for the apps/categories you select and for reviewing your settings.
System limitations, revoked permissions, device changes, time-zone changes, app updates, and other conditions can affect whether a shield applies or clears as expected. The app includes a fail-open/emergency approach where feasible, but we do not guarantee that blocking or unblocking will be uninterrupted, error-free, or suitable for every purpose.
4. Free and Premium features
The core Scripture ritual and optional blocking are not Premium benefits. The current V1 Premium capabilities are limited to the premium narrator library and Personalized Journeys. Feature availability may depend on device support, content rights, network conditions, and the plan shown in the app at the time of purchase.
5. Purchases and subscriptions
Purchases are processed by Apple through the App Store. Pricing, billing period, taxes, trial terms, and renewal terms are shown to you before purchase.
If you purchase an automatically renewing subscription, it renews unless you cancel it through your Apple Account settings at least 24 hours before the end of the current period, subject to Apple’s then-current terms. Apple, not Burrito Studio, handles payment processing and refund requests under Apple’s applicable policies. You can use the app’s Restore Purchases function to request restoration of eligible purchases associated with your Apple Account.
We may change future plan availability or pricing in accordance with Apple’s rules and applicable law. A price or feature change will not alter an already-completed purchase except as permitted by Apple and applicable law.
6. Scripture, audio, and editorial content
Bible translations, audio recordings, imagery, music, and other third-party materials may be subject to their owners’ copyright, license, attribution, and usage requirements. You may use content only as allowed by the app, these Terms, and any applicable rights notice. Do not copy, redistribute, publish, sell, train a model on, or commercially exploit Service content unless the rights holder or applicable law permits it.
Availability of a translation, narrator, or audio experience is not a promise of permanent availability. We may remove or replace content when rights, safety, technical, or editorial circumstances require it.
7. Your content and sharing
You retain your rights in reflections and other content you create locally in the app. We do not claim ownership of that local content. If you choose to share a Scripture card or Today’s Moment through the iOS share sheet, you are responsible for the destination, recipients, and any accompanying message you add. The app excludes reflections and Screen Time/blocking information from its own share payload.
8. Intellectual property
Except for content you own and third-party materials, the Service’s software, design, branding, editorial material, and other original content are owned by or licensed to Burrito Studio and are protected by applicable intellectual-property laws. These Terms give you a limited, personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to use the Service as provided. No other rights are granted.
9. Third-party services
The Service relies on Apple services for device features and purchases and may use RevenueCat for subscription-entitlement management, cloud providers for content delivery and text-to-speech, account providers, analytics, and crash reporting. External sharing destinations are selected by you. Those services are governed by their own terms and privacy policies. We are not responsible for third-party services outside our control.
10. Changes, suspension, and termination
We may modify, suspend, or discontinue all or part of the Service when reasonably necessary for maintenance, security, legal compliance, rights management, or product changes. We may suspend access if you materially violate these Terms. You may stop using the Service at any time by deleting it from your device and cancelling any subscription through Apple if applicable.
11. Disclaimers
THE SERVICE IS PROVIDED ON AN "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE" BASIS TO THE EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW. WE DO NOT GUARANTEE THAT IT WILL ALWAYS BE AVAILABLE, ERROR-FREE, SECURE, OR THAT ITS SCRIPTURAL, EDITORIAL, AUDIO, OR SCREEN TIME FEATURES WILL MEET EVERYONE’S NEEDS.
The Service is for personal devotional, educational, and focus purposes. It is not medical, mental-health, legal, financial, emergency, or professional pastoral advice. If you need urgent help or professional advice, contact an appropriate qualified professional or emergency service.
12. Limitation of liability
TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY APPLICABLE LAW, BURRITO STUDIO AND ITS OFFICERS, DIRECTORS, EMPLOYEES, CONTRACTORS, AND LICENSORS WILL NOT BE LIABLE FOR INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, EXEMPLARY, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, OR FOR LOSS OF DATA, PROFITS, GOODWILL, OR USE, ARISING FROM OR RELATING TO THE SERVICE.
TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, OUR TOTAL LIABILITY FOR ALL CLAIMS ARISING FROM OR RELATING TO THE SERVICE WILL NOT EXCEED THE GREATER OF (A) THE AMOUNTS YOU PAID US FOR THE SERVICE IN THE TWELVE MONTHS BEFORE THE EVENT GIVING RISE TO THE CLAIM OR (B) US$50.
Some jurisdictions do not permit certain disclaimers or limits. In those jurisdictions, these sections apply only to the extent permitted by law.
13. Changes to these Terms
We may update these Terms when the Service or applicable law changes. We will post the updated version with a new effective date and provide additional notice when required. Continuing to use the Service after the effective date means you accept the updated Terms, to the extent permitted by law.
